Mix faith with what you hear
Pastor's Thoughts for December 2003
When we do not mix faith with doctrine it is like a house with a leaking roof. The house is just fine when the sun is shining; but let the rain and snow and storms come, and that house will end in ruin.
Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him"
So many so-called Christians say they believe in Jesus and God without going to Church, without reading the Bible, without fellowship around the Cross. They do not understand Romans 10:17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God". How can one say they have faith when they do not know the doctrines that are in the word of God? Very simple. They live in a pride complex under the control of the satanic kingdom, believing a lie John 8:44 instead of the truth, which is to live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God Matthew 4:4.
Another step happens when we do not mix faith with what we hear. Our vessels are broken so that we do not retain the word of God. We hear a message on Sunday morning which is the true word of God, edifying Christ Jesus as our personal Saviour. Because the vessel is broken, the word of God instead of taking up residence in our hearts, disappears by the time we leave the parking lot being replaced with the cares of this world. Our meditation is not of the Lord but of our own troubles.
This goes on Sunday after Sunday until we just go to Church because it has become a habit. This is a sorry end to one that does not mix faith with what they hear.
Thirdly, one that does not mix faith with what they hear walks by sight - whatever feels good must be ok. They disregard what is being preached Sunday after Sunday, as satan replaces the word of God with his thoughts to live by your feelings and emotions. This person lives in a state of being tossed to and fro, unable to discern that the just shall live by faith.
Romans 1:17 "For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith"
Empty lives are now the result for these people, because they have no faith in God. They now walk as dead men in their sin, thinking they are all right.
The ones that mix faith with what they have heard grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. They can not wait to come to Church, for they are hungry for the word of God.
Happiness is part of their lives as Christ Jesus imparts life to their souls and spirit. They read with joy the Holy word of God wanting to be fed from their Saviour's hands.
They hear and learn of Jesus wanting to be more Christ like. Their lips are continuously filled with the praises to our Lord. They are overwhelmed by the Lord's presence moment by moment, loving life and others also.
They have the faith which pleases God, learning doctrine as much as they can. They look unto the Author and Finisher of our faith with great expectations knowing one day we shall be like Him.
1 John 5:4b "this is our victory that overcometh the world, even our faith"
Bible References (KJV)
John 8:44 "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."
Matthew 4:4 "But He answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God".
