Husbands, love your Wives

Ephesians 5:25 "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it."

After many years of marriage we still kiss each other in the morning without the worry of bad breath. Each day we share that we love one another. We will even tell our children that we love them. Love is always meant to grow.

"Love your wives" is a present imperative. It is a command to do something in the future and involves continuous action. This action is not to be broken; it is a command. Our thoughts towards our wives should be only loving kindness. Never should we compare our wives with someone else. Never should we sing the song "The old gray mare is not what she used to be". These are not loving kindness statements, but statements from the pit of hell.

Today we should love our wives more than when we first got married. Our eyes should look upon our wives with tender kindness, thanking God for the wonderful gift He has given us. Our loving kindness towards our wives should be much greater as we go through the empty nest syndrome. No amount of books can ever tell that experience. Love with commitment will bring us through.

Hebrews 12:2 tells us to keep our eyes upon Christ, for He has His eyes upon us.
