Women
Daily Devotional for July 7

1 Peter 3:5 "For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands."
There are many famous women in the Holy Bible and here is a short list of them.
Eve: the woman that ate of the tree of good and evil
first
Genesis 3:6 "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,
and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took
of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat."
Hagar: the unwanted wife
Genesis 21:14-19 "And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took
bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the
child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-Sheba.
And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. And
she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she
said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her
voice, and wept.
And God heard the voice of the lad; and the angel of god called to Hagar out of heaven,
and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the
lad where he is. Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a
great nation. And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and
filled the bottle with water, and gave the lad drink."
Sarah: the princess
Genesis 11:29-31 "And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of
Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the
father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. But Sarai was barren; she had no child. And
Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his sin's son, and Sarai his
daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the
Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there."
Miriam: the ambitious woman
Numbers 12:1-12 "And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of
the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman. And they
said, Hath the Lord indeed spoken only by Moses? hath He not spoken also by us? And the
Lord heard it. (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the
face of the earth.)
And the Lord spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three
unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out. And the Lord came down
in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and
Miriam: and they both came forth. And He said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet
among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him
in a dream. My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. With him will I
speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the
Lord shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and He departed.
And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and behold, Miriam became leprous, white
as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous. And Aaron said unto
Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done
foolishly, and wherein we have sinned. Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is
half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb."
Deborah: the patriot woman
Judges 4:4 "And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she
judged Israel at that time."
Ruth: the woman that stays
Ruth 1:16 "And Ruth said, Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return
from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I
will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God"
Hannah: the ideal mother
1 Samuel 1:20 "Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about
after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying,
Because I have asked him of the LORD."
Abigail: the capable woman
1 Samuel 25:3 "Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his
wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance:
but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb."
Esther: the brave woman
Esther 4:8-10 "Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree
that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to show it unto Esther, and to declare it unto
her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him,
and to make request before him for her people. And Hatach came and told Esther the words
of Mordecai. Again Esther spake unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai."
Mary Magdalene: the new woman
Mark 16:1-9 "And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary
the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint
him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher
at the rising of the sun. And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone
from the door of the sepulcher? And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled
away: for it was very great. And entering into the sepulcher, they saw a young man sitting
on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified:
he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. But go on your way,
tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see
him, as he said unto you. And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulcher; for they
trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to any man; for they were afraid.
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary
Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils."
Elisabeth the babe leaped in her womb
Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the
salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy
Spirit
Mary the mother of Jesus: chosen
Luke 1:30-38 "And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou
hast found favor with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a
son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the
Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: and he shall
reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel
answered and said unto her, The Holy Spirit shall come upon thee, and the power of the
highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee
shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived
a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For
with God nothing shall be impossible.
And Mary said, Behold the handmaiden of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And
the angel departed from her."
Mary of Bethany: one to be remembered
Matthew 26:13 "Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be
preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for
a memorial of her."
Martha: the one that worried
Luke 10:40 "But Martha was cumbered about with much serving, and came
to him, and said, Lord, dost not thou care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid
her therefore that she help me."
The women were first at the tomb
Mark 16:1-2 "And when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary
the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint
him. And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher
at the rising of the sun."
The women were first to proclaim Christ Jesus
resurrection
Matthew 28:8 "And they departed quickly from the sepulcher with fear
and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word."
Behind all good men there is a better woman. She is there praying on her knees for her husband, helping him in every way she can. She is not trying to be the head, for she is a godly woman obeying the Holy Bible. She is happy in her role as a help meet. She is a great mom, teaching her children the love of the Lord. She is content and happy in her marriage.
