Ephesians 4:30 "And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed unto the day of redemption".
When you build yourself a big beautiful deck onto the side of your house you will seal it, because you want to protect the deck from the different weather conditions the deck will encounter over the different seasons. The sunshine and rain bounce upon the sealed surface of the deck not penetrating the sealed surface. The deck is protected.
God has sealed the born again Christian forever. He is the one that protects us from the wiles of the devil. The Christian can grieve the Holy Spirit that lives within by sinning. Sinning breaks fellowship with the Father. The believer can be restored to fellowship with God at once by using the recovery verse of 1 John 1:9.
One example we will use today is gossip. Gossip will always grieve the Spirit, because when one is gossiping they are not building up another's character, but tearing it down. The gossiper loves to talk on the phone about others, and this is sin causing the gossiper to grieve the Holy Spirit. If the gossiper does not repent, God has ways to cause this person to feel forsaken. They will start feeling God is against them, but they will say "I don't know why". The truth of the matter is that God is convicting them of their sin of gossip. They are living in broken fellowship with God, unhappy. This is just one of the many ways a believer can grieve the Holy Spirit of God.
Please stop all gossip. It hurts yourself, and others. Use the recovery verse of 1 John 1:9.
