Daily Devotional for March 28
Song of Solomon 2:15 "Take us the foxes, the little foxes, that spoil the vines: for our vines have tender grapes."
Foxes are seen as the enemy, stealing the tender grapes. Have you ever heard the old expression "There's a fox in the chicken coop or in the hen house"? To the one that's raised chickens this was a great problem. The fox loves chicken dinners. Tender grapes we can say here are baby Christians, and the fox is the devil. The devil has one aim; that is to steal, kill and destroy the baby Christians through a series of lies and deception.
The devil is always there with his army trying to lay a snare for the young Christian to fall into. Matthew 6:13a says "And lead us not in to temptation, but deliver us from evil". The evil one is none other than the devil. Our Lord taught his disciples to pray each day that they would be delivered from the evil one. We should also ask our Lord that He would deliver us from the old fox the devil each day.
The fox is always trying to get into the hen house, because he knows that they are easy prey. The devil is always after the truly born again Christian because he knows they tend to be forgetful hearers and doers. The devil counts on the Christian to get familiar with the word of God so that he will forget to put on his spiritual armor of Ephesians 6:10-18 each day. The Marine does not forget his rifle, for he has been trained to do battle with his enemy. The fox loves it when the Christian is not prepared for the daily battle. The word of God is the Christian's armor.
Are you ready for the fox today?
Bible References (KJV)
Ephesians 6:10-18 "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints"
