James 4:11 "Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law; but a judge."

Evil speaking (Greek katalalia) means to put someone down. The only way one can put another down is to judge what they are doing to be wrong in their eyes. James has said, "Do not speak evil of the brethren". A Christian's tongue should be a tongue of redemption. A tongue of building up others in the Lord. A tongue that is praising the Lord continually. A tongue that will not speak evil by judging others. A tongue that is used in prayer. A tongue to share the Gospel.

Mankind's tongue is a tongue used to take the Lord's name in vain. Every day in the workplace, in the schoolrooms, in the barrooms, at the movies, in the houses, in the trains, buses, airplanes, cars, in the grocery stores, on land, and on sea, mankind's tongue goes untamed; full of swearing and cursings. We live in the greatest nation in the world, but the tongues of our own children are full of cursings all day long. Stand at a local bus stop on any given morning and you will hear the immoral tongues of the children of today discussing the garbage that was on television last night or on the Internet.

Ephesians 6:1 says, "Children obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right". Colossians 3:20 also says, "Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord".

Let not your tongue speak evil, for it hurts the heart of God and others.
